A love of nature and the wildness of the world is at the heart of this body of watercolour paintings. While some of the landscapes are what might be called 'real places', many are dreamier inbetween places, drawing inspiration from wild Otago and the wider realm of Aotearoa landscapes. Even the idea of a 'real place' is questionable, as we all meet each place uniquely.
Watercolour has been chosen for its animate qualities,  the way it seems to take on its own life,  creating beautiful and surprising effects. These unexpected moments help to create an indistinct and liminal quality. Moments where land merges with sky, where figures emerge from the earth or dissolve into the air.
The paintings inhabit an ambiguous and meditative space between external landscape and internal dreamscape.
